Dear Mr. Davis:
This letter is to inform you that the fire barrier separating Fire Zones 17F (the Unit 2 East MDAFP Room),
and Zone 84 (the Unit 2 Turbine Building 591'levation),
was inoperable in excess of the seven 'days allowable under Technical Specification 3.7.10 Action a.
On June 9,
- 1988, a void was discovered in the concrete under the bottom of Fire Damper 2-HV-AFPFP-1 connecting Fire Zones 17F and 84.
At that time the fire barrier was declared inoperable and a fire watch posted per the requirements of Technical Specification 3.7.10 Action a.
A technical evaluation reviewing the fire loading in each
- zone, the location of the fire damper and void in the concrete in relation to combustibles in each zone, the fire rating of the barrier, and the Fire Suppression System in Zone 84, concluded that the defense in depth fire protection features provided in Fire Zones 17F and 84 adequately protected the fire safety of the plant.
The void in the concrete was repaired and the fire barrier was declared operable on July 11, 1988.
