Dear Mr. Davis:
This special report is being submitted in accordance with Technical Specification 3.7.10 Action A, to inform you that Fire Door 371, separating the new Containment Access Building and the Auxiliary Building Crane Bay, has been inoperable for longer than seven days.
Fire Door 371 was installed as part of the new Containment Access Building constructed for the Unit 2 Steam Generator Repair Project.
Due to numerous repairs and repetitive hardware failures, we have concluded that this door is not designed to withstand the high traffic service to which it is being subjected.
Permanent correction of this situation is being pursued.
We will provide you with the schedule for correction when that has been determined.
Upon declaring Fire Door 371 inoperable, fire watches, as required by Technical Specification 3.7.10 Action A, were initiated and will remain in effect until all repairs are completed.
