Dear Mr. Davis:
This letter is to inform you that the Fire Detection System for Fire Zone 34, Unit 2 East Main Steam Enclosure, has been inoperable in excess of 14 days as specified by Tech-nical Specification 3.3.3.8 Action b.
While not specifically identified in Technical Specification 3.3-11, these fire detectors were installed for 10 CFR 50.48 Appendix R
compliance and are maintained as Technical Specification equipment under Plant Manager Standing Order.095.
After receiving numerous spurious alarms from Fire Zone 34 resulting in a Standing Annunciator, the Unit 2 Control Room declared the detector spring inoperable.
Following investigation by Instrument and Control personnel and discussions with the manufacturers'epresentative, the potential cause of the problem was identified and replacement parts received.
The Fire Detection System for Fire Zone 34 was returned to service on 04-12-88.
Required fire watches were maintained for this area at all times.
