Big Rock Point Plant - Post Implementation Verification Review of Neutron Monitoring Software (TAC NO. 69076)

Amendment 91 of the Big Rock Point Operating License, dated May 17, 1988, approved the changes to the Technical Specifications concerning the modification to the neutron monitoring instrumentation. That amendment requested an independent, post-implementation verification of the software and to report the results.

A meeting was held on August 11, 1988 with General Electric Company, Consumers Power Company and the NRC to discuss this issue. It was agreed that an alternate approach to accomplish this verification would be reviewed by the NRC. By letter dated September 12, 1988, you submitted " Big Rock Point DC Wide Range Monitor Additioncl Verification Plan" and it was subsequently reviewed and accepted for the case of Big Rock Point Plant on November 9, 1988. ,

In a letter dated January 6, 1989, you requested an extension of the sixty days to complete this verification to February 9, 1989 and ':his extension was granted on January 18, 1989.

By letter dated February 9, 1989, you submitted the results c: the review of the validation and verification of DC Wide Range Neutron Monitoring software. This review identified a number of minor items that have becn resolved, provided five (5) stated items in your letter were confirmed by Consumers Power Comnany. Your response closed these items, therefore, the independent post-implementation verification of the software question outstanding for Amendment 91 (TAC NO. 69076) has been closed by the Commission.
