-FIRE PROTECTION - CALVERT CLIFFS We have completed our review of your letter dated January 30, 1981, which requested an extension of completion dates for fire protection modification according to-your attached schedule (Enclosure 1). Item numbers 3.1.19'  :

(Fire Detection in Safety-Related Areas), 3.1.21 (Fire Hose Coverages),-

3.2.1 (Fire Hazard Analysis) and 3.2.4 (Firewalls and Dampers), are covered r by Aopendix R to 10 CFR 50 and required by the schedule of 10 CFR 50.48 caragraoh C. Item number 3.1.13 (Emergency Communications) will be completed  !

Treref:re, there is no need to request an extension for these items.

i Iter numoers 3.3.2 (Emergency Lighting) and 3.3.4 (Reactor Coolant Pump LuDe Cil Collection) have been completed for Unit lic.1, but need an e>.teisicn fcr Unit No. 2. In addition, Item nur:er 3.1.6 (Automatic Fire 5a::ressien in Cable Spreading Rooms) also needs an extension for both Units.

Based on our review, we conclude that you have shown good cause for the 1 renested extension. We further conclude that this extension will not-acversely affect the health and safety of the public. Accordingly, your a' request for extension of the fire protection items 3.3.2, 3.3.4, and 3.1.6 is hereby granted. Therefore, the dates in 10 CFR-50.48 paragraph (d)(1) thrcugh (d)(4) are apolicable to these three items rather than the dates in your current license condition. l
