NRC INSPECTION REPORT NOS. 50-317/99-02 AND 50-318/99-02
Dear Mr. Cruse:
This refers to the special onsite safety inspection by a team of NRC inspectors assembled
from staff located at Region I, Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Office of Nuclear
Regulatory Research, and Region ll, conducted during the period February 8 - 12,1999, at
the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Station. This inspection was the first of three planned
visits to verify Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Station's license enewal program is in
compliance with the requirements of_the rule for license v wal, and is consistent with
Baltimore Gas and Electric's license renewal applicatior ....J the NRC staff's safety
evaluation. The enclosed report documents the results of this inspection.
The NRC inspection team concluded that Baltimore Gas and Electric properly implemented
,
the scoping and screening methodology approved by the NRC and that the references and
documentation supporting the information in the license renewal application are in auditable
and retrievable forms.
,
The NRC inspection revedled that support structures in the fire pump house and diesel
. generator building two were not included within the scope of your license renewal. While
your staff has agreed to include the fire pump house within the scope of license renewal,
the more generalissue of support structures that are relied on to comply with 10 CFR 54.4
(a) (3) is being evaluated by the NRC's Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation.
