REPORTING PEQUIREMENTS EXEMPTION RE00EST Pe: Grand Gulf Nuclear Station

{ By letter dated July 16, 1985, Mississippi Power and Light Company (MPL) requested an exemption from the reporting recuirerents contained in 10 CFR 50.73 as allowable urder 10 CFR 50.12(a) for any requirement and under 10 CFR 50.73(f) for written reporting requirements.

I Specifically, MPL's request for exenption is related to the requirement to report all nanual and automatic actuations of any Engineering Safety Feature (ESF). The staff has received similar requests for exemption from other licensees since these reporting requirements became effective on January 1, 1984. In light of these requests for exenption and various licensee reports received, the staff is currently reevaluating the requirements set forth in both 50.72 and 50.73. The Cornission currently plans to address your concerns on a ceneric basis as part of this reevalua tion.

Upon completion of the staff's reevaluation of the requiren,ents in 50.72 and 50.73, MPL may resubnit its request if MPL concludes that the concerns, delineated in the request for exemption have ',ot been adequately addressed.
