GRANDGULFNUCLEARSTATION(GGNS), UNIT 1 RESPONSE TO GENERIC' LETTER 89-04 (TAC NO. 74768)
By letter dated May 18, 1990, the licensee (System Energy Resources, Inc. before June 6,1990 and Entergy Operations, Inc. on or after that date) responded to j
Generic Letter 89-04, " Guidance on Developing Acceptable Inservice. Testing Programs." The letter stated that the licensee has completed the actions necessary to meet the positions in Generic Letter 89-04. Attachment 1 of the letter listed reliefs currently in effect that were submitted pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a. Attachment 2 and Valve Inservice Testing (provided a copy of the revised GGNS, Unit 1 Pump IST) Program (Revision 4,datedMay 17,1990) including the specific relief requests listed in Attachment 1.
Based on its eyeluation and the changes implemented in the GGNS IST Program, the licensee concluded that the GGNS IST Program conforms to the positions in NRC Generic Letter 89-04. The licensee also stated that IST Program procedures have been written or revised as necessary to implement the revised GGNS IST Program.
Furthermore, the licensee indicated that no equipment modifications are required i
as a result of the revised GGNS IST Program.
j The NRC staff confirms that the licensee's actions as stated in its May 18, 1990 submittal, and summarized above, meets the guidelines in Generic Letter 89 04.
Therefore,.the relief requests in the GGNS, Unit 1 Pump and Valve Testing Program, Revision 4. dated May 17, 1990, are approved. The NRC may conduct inspections to determine licensee conformance with the provisions of the approval granted by the Generic Letter. The areas covered in Attachment 1 of the Generic Letter will be the focus of future IST inspections. Aspects of the IST Program not addressed by Attachment 1 may also be inspected.
