Dear Mr. Richard:

EJordan ACRS (16)

Subject:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Units I and 2 -

Control Room Habitability i The NRC staff's Safety Evaluation Report, Supplement No. 6, Section 6.4 provided our evaluation of allowable control room inleakage to meet control room habit-ability requirements of General Design Criterion 19, Appendix A to 10 CFR 50 for operation of Unit I with Unit 2 under construction. The control room is shared between Units 1 and 2. The staff has completed its review of allowable control room inleakage for simultaneous operation of Units 1 and 2. The staff's evalua-tion is enclosed.

Based on its review, the staff concludes that for simultaneous operation of Units 1 and 2, the allowable inleakage rate should be reduced to 590 cfm from the 760 cfm presently allowed by Unit 1 License Condition 2.C.(38). The Unit 2 i operating license will be appropriately conditioned to reflect this conclusion.

Sincerely, Original signed bys

! Thomas M. Novak Thomas M. Novak, Assistant Director for licensing Division of Licensing
