Gentlemen:

This refers to the Systematic Assessment of Licensee Performance (SALP) Board

Report of Arkansas Nuclear One, Units 1 and 2. The SALP Board met on

August 7,1985, to evaluate the performance of the subject facility for the

period July 1, 1984, through June 30, 1985. The performance analyses and

resulting evaluations are documented in the enclosed SALP Board Report.

The performance of your facility was evaluated in the selected functional areas

identified in Section IV of the enclosed SALP Board Report.

Overall, we found your performance acceptable-and directed toward safe facility .

operation. _ Significant improvement has been noted in your performance in tne

areas of maintenance, surveillance, and radiation protection. Areas needing

improvement include design change control, control of written commitments to

the NRC, management of the security program, and completeness of Licensee Event

Reports.~

Unless you'specifically request it, a management meeting will not be scheduled

v for this reporting period. Any request for a management meeting should be-

made, in writing, within 10 days of receipt of this report.

Any comments you may have regarding our evaluation of the performance of your

facility should be submitted to this office within_30 days of issue of the SALP

. report. Your comments and our disposition of the same will be issued as

appendices to the-SALP Board Report.

Comments which you may submit are not subject to the clearance procedures of-

the Office of Management and Budget as required by the Paperwork Reduction Act

of 1980, PL 96-511.-
