BIG ROCK POINT OFFSITE DOSE CALCULATION MANUAL (TAC NO. 63138)

You provided an Offsite Dose Calculation Manual (ODCM), dated December 1, 1984, for Big Rock Point Plant (BRP). That document was accepted by us on

- August 26, 1985. Subsequently, you submitted Revisions 1 and 2.to the ODCM accompanying Consumers Power Company letters dated February 28, 1986, and August 27, 1987, respectively.

The Revision 2 ODCM for BRP has been reviewed for us in its entirety by our contractor, EG&G Idaho, Inc. Their discussion and comments are contained in their Technical Evaluation Report (TER) EGG-PHY-8079, which is enclosed with this letter. We agree with the contractor that your ODCM uses methods that-are, in general, consistent with staff guidelines and is an acceptable interim reference.

However, the TER lists a number of discrepancies and suggestions, some typo-graphical in nature, and others dealing with technical issues. Since these questions involve refinements of a basically sound document, there is no need for immediate action. Instead, we ask that you address the points raised in the Conclusions section of the TER within 6 months in a new revision of the ODCM.

The request in this letter affects fewer than 10 respondents; therefore OMB clearance is not required under PL 96-511.
