Dear Mr. O'Reilly:

SUBJECT:

Grand Gulf Nuclear Station Unit 1 Docket No. 50-416 License No. NPF-13 File 0260/L-835.0 Update Report - FSAR Accident Analysis Utilization of a Non-Existing P] ant Condition LER 82-105/01 X-1 AECM-83/0141 This letter submits an update to a previous report submitted on November 24, 1982. The event for which the report was submitted occurred on November 10, 1982, after initial review of a design change request it was determined that the present design constituted an event reportable under Technical Specification 6.9.1.12.h. In the request, the architect engineer requested a design change to allow at least 5 seconds of steam bypass following a turbine trip upon loss of the main circulating water pumps. According to the request, incorporation of the proposed change would satisfy a General Electric assumption in Chapter 15 of the Final Safety Analysis Report that the steam line bypass be open for at least 5 seconds following a turbine trip during loss of condenser vacuum transient.

After a detailed review of the design change request it has been determined that the proposed desdgn change is not necessary. Attached is LER 82-105/01 X-1, which is a final report.

Yours truly, O
