FITNESS FOR DUTY SIX MONTH REPORT i

l JULY 1,1998 THROUGH DECEMBER 31,1998 i

Manaaement Action:

Management actions to enhancing the Fitness for Duty program during this reporting period were:

Management approved the use of a new confirmatory laboratory for services rendered to Fitness For Duty at all four of Entergy Operation's sites (River i

Bend, Waterford Ill, ANO and Grand Gulf). The use of this laboratory is expected to improve service and reduce cost of drug testing.

Fitness for Duty initiatives Taken:

f Fitness for Duty added to adulterants testing a chemstrip termed "Adultacheck" which tests for (Creatinine, Nitrite, Glutaradidehyde, and ph).

Toxicologists suggested that this would be an asset to our drug testing program for identifying adulterants being sold on the market.

There were no Entergy personnel or contractors involved in our follow-up l

program during this reporting period.

The Random testing rate was 22.4% for this period. Entergy's yearly Random testing rate was 52.1% which exceeded the NRC minimum required testing rate of 50%

Effectiveness Evaluation:

The Fitness for Duty organization continues to update and revise procedures based on operating experience, industry lessons leamed and QA audits, including those conducted at other nuclear sites, as part of the continual process of maintaining an effective program.
