Gentlemen:

This refers to the inspection conducted by Messrs. E. J. Ford, W. B. Jones, and

G. L. Madsen of this office during the period August 1-31, 1989, of activities

authorized by NRC Operating License NPF-47 for River Bend Station, and to the

discussion oi' our findings with you and other members of your staff at the

conclusion of the inspection.

Areas examined during the inspection included followup of events, operational

safety verification, maintenance observation, surveillance test observation,

licensee event report followup, followup on 10 CFR Part 21 reports, and

followup.on NRC information notices. Within these areas, the inspection

consisted of selective examination.of procedures and representative records,

interviews with personnel, and observations by the NRC inspectors. The

inspection findings are documented in the enclosed inspection ~ report.

Within the scope of the inspection, no violations or deviations were

identified.

We have also examined actions you have taken with regard to previously

identified inspection findings. The status of these items is ider.tified in

paragraph 10 of the enclosed report.
