Subject: Integrated Design Inspection 50-440/84-29, Supplement 2
The Office of Inspection and Enforcement conducted a follow-up reinspection
to the Perry Integrated Design Inspection at the NRC offices and Gilbert /
Commonwealth offices on May 9 and 10,1985. The reinspection team was composed
of personnel from the Office of Inspection and Enforcement and consultants.
The purpose of the reinspection was to assess the adequacy of corrective

actions pertinent to fifteen items which remained open subsequent to the team's
reinspection conducted February 27 through March 1, 1985. Your letter dated
April 15, 1985 provided additional information in response to the earlier
reinspection.

The enclosed report indicates that no IDI items remain open. However, the
Region will follow-up to monitor items such as testing for the emergency
service water pumps for water hammer (D2.1-3) and reverse rotation (D2.1-6),
and implementation of design and hardware changes associated with items D5.4-1
and D5.7-3. Our close-out actions are based on your evaluations in response to
the original IDI concerns. These evaluations have in some cases identified the
need for design / hardware changes. In addition, this report and the earlier
reinspection report (3/26/85) noted that Gilbert and Cleveland Electric
documentation has been originated pertinent to potential design and hardware
changes and possible reportable events associated with IDI items. It is expected
that further actions on these issues also will be properly controlled and
executed.
