Gentlemen:
Lic3nsee Event Report (LER) 87-14 described an event in which corrosion was discovered on the internal surfaces of both centrifugal charging pumps. In this LER, it was ,
- noted that the exact cause of the corrosion was unknown j and that the results of the investigation to identify the j cause would be reported by September 1, 1987. Due to the l
-extended duration of the 1987 refueling outage, resources .
were diverted to other activities such that detailed examina-tion of the pumps has not yet been performed. Preparation of the pumps for examination is to begin in the near future l followed by a metallurgical examination to determine the j cause of failure.
The results of the examination will be reported in a revision to LER 87-14 by November 1, 1987. !
