Trojan Nuclear Plant Docket 50-344 License NPF-1 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission ATTN: Document Control Desk Washington DC 20555

Dear Sirs:

Amphenol (Bunker Ramo) Electrical Penetration Assemblies By letter dated January 31, 1989, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) informed Portland General Electric Company (PGE) that the staff had completed its review of documentation presented by the licensees of affected operating reactors to demonstrate that Amphenol electrical penetration assemblies (EPAs) were environmentally qualified in accord-ance with Title 10 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Section 50, Part 49 (10 CFR 50.49). The NRC staff concluded that the documentation was inadequate and requested Trojan to establish qualification by conducting a test as required by 10 CFR 50.49 or to replace the affected EPAs with qualified assemblies. This letter is submitted to inform you of our plans and schedule in this regard.

Seven Amphenol EPAs through which safety-related and post-accident monitoring instrumentation signals pass are installed in the Containment of the Trojan Nucicar Plant. PGE will replace these seven EPAs with qualified assemblies during the 1990 and 1991 scheduled refueling outages unless qualification of the EPAs can be established by testing that is applicable to Trojan. A written Justification for Continued

! Operation (JCO) will be implemented to support Plant operation until i these actions are completed in accordance with the guidance in Generic l
