REPORT MONTH Unit 3 began operation for the month at 60% reactor power. Power was reduced to 40% for a turbine valve test on February 2. Power was returned to 60% power for waterbox and heat exchanger cleaning on February 2 and taken to 100% power on February 3.
The unit remained at essentially 100% power until February 9. On February 9 power was reduced to 60% power for waterbox cleaning and testing of a main feed water pump discharge check valve.
During this testing an automatic reactor trip occurred on February 9 due to hi-hi steam generator water level, which is discussed in LER 96-002. The unit was restarted on February 11 and operated at approximately 60% during repair of the main feed water pump discharge check valve. On February 16 the unit was taken to Mode 3 due to a grass influx into the intake and remained off line until February 19. The unit was taken to Mode 2 on February 19 however returned to Mode 3 due to rod control problems. The unit was returned to power on February 21 and remained at essentially 100% power through the end of the month.
