Unit 3 operated at essentially 100 % reactor power until September 19, 1998. Then power was lowered to approximately 50% in preparation for a refueling outage. While completing the shutdown for the refueling outage on September 21, 1998, the unit automatically tripped when power dropped below 8 % before the Excore Intermediate Range Channel N35 high power trip had reset (see LER 250/98-004). The unit remained shut down for refueling for the remainder of the month, and is expected to restart on or about October 24, 1998.

Unit 4 operated at essentially 100% until September 24, 1998. With the approach of Hurricane Georges, reactor power was lowered to 50 % as a precautionary measure. When the threat of hurricane force winds was past, the National Hurricane Center downgraded the hurricane warning to a tropical storm'warning on September 25, 1998, and preparations were made to return power to 100%. After plant personnel verified that no damage had occurred, power was returned to 100% on September 26, 1998.
