==Dear Mr. Tiernan:==

The Commission has issued the enclosed Amendment No.116to Facility Operating License No. DPR-53 for Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, Unit No.1. This amendment consists of changes to the Technical Specifications in response to your application dated December 17, 1985 as supplemented by your letter dated January 16, 1986.
This amendment changes the Unit 1 Technical Specification (TS) 3.3.3.2, "Incore Detectors" for the remainder of fuel Cycle 8 operation, as follows:
(1) TS 3.3.3.2a is changed so that the incore detectors are used to determine azimuthal power tilt at three axial elevations, (2) the number of incore detector segments required for recalibration of the excore neutron flux detection system, in TS 3.3.3.2b, are decreased from at least 75% to at 1
* t 50% of all incore detector segments, and (3) the number of incore detector locations required for monitoring radial peaking factors or linear heat rate are decreased from at least 75% to at least 50% of all incore detector locations.
Approval of these Technical Specification changes is partly predicated on your commitment, contained in your application dated December 17, 1985 that, when the failure level of incore detector strings exceeds 25%, the power distribution map frequency will be increased to a Mode-1 once per-15-day schedule as described in the enclosed Safety Evaluation.
The notice of issuance will be included in the Commission's next bi weekly Federal Register notice.
Sincerely,
                                                                                                                                                    /S/

Dear Mr. Tiernan:

  • t 50% of all incore detector segments, and (3) the number of incore detector locations required for monitoring radial peaking factors or linear heat rate are decreased from at least 75% to at least 50% of all incore detector locations.
