3 Description of Incident:

Neutrali:er tank releases for :iove=ber 1978 (11 days) resulted in a daily average ~

of 39.2 mg/l TSS.

4. Apparent Cause:

Apparent source of TSS is from internal corrosion of carben-steel piping used in the air sparging syste: within the neutralizer tank. The air sparging system is used to mix tank contents. Seventy percent of the TSS present is in the form of metallic irca placed in solution by the acidic conditions periodically found in the tank.
