Dear Mr. O'Reilly:
4 In accordance with Carolina Power & Light Company'g Response to Request for Information dated January 22, 1981, NO-81-119, enclosed are amendments to previous Semiannual Environmental and Effluent Reports. These amendments are made (1) to include liquid effluents discharged from the stabilization pond during 1979 and 1980, and (2) to describe the maximum theoretical results of potential auxiliary boiler releases subsequent to the auxiliary boiler release of February 22, 1980.
The semiannual reports being amended are for January 1,1979, to June 30, 1979, July 1, 1979, to December 31, 1979, and January 1, 1980, to June 30, 1980.
In addition, the amendment for July 1, 1979, to December 31, 1979, includes Sr-89 and Sr-90 effluent data which was not available at the time of the original submittal. The enclosed amendments are the affected pages of the reports which need to replace the corresponding pages in the original submittals.

O'Reilly March 3, 1981 The amend =ent for January 1,1980, to June 30, 1980, indicates that gaseous release rate limits for I-131 and particulates, as specified in the Brunswick Steam Electric Plant Technical Specifications, Appendix B, Section 2.5.2, could have been exceeded. This is because this amendment includes the maximum theoretical results of potential auxiliary boiler releases during the first quarter of 1980.
It is very improbable that there was any significant release of radioactive material to the unrestricted area because of the lack of environ-mental radiological evidence and the extreme conservatism built into the cal-culations.
For these reasons, we believe that the technical specification release rate limits were not exceeded.
