Description:

Turbine Sump Oil Outfall Code No: 800218 Separator (001/00F)

Parameter: Oil and Grease Parameter Code No: 00556 1.

Date of Incident: Ma,pr14,1986(1000 Hours) 2.

Identification of specific effluent limitation or monitoring requirement affected:

Exceeded daily maximum limit 20 mg/L oil and grease 3.

Description of Incident:

A sample of the turbine sump oil separator tank (T-41) on 4/14/86 (1300 hours0.015 days <br />0.361 hours <br />0.00215 weeks <br />4.9465e-4 months <br />) was reported on 5/19/86 to be 61.5 mg/L.

Apparent Cause:

Oil / water separator was temporar'ily by passed for scheduled cleaning from 0630 to 1030 on 5-14-86.

The bypassed oily wastewater overburdened capabilities of tank T-41.

Correctiva Action - The following corrective action was taken or will be taken to reduce, eliminate and prevent recurrence:

The oil / water separator M-18 was returned to service at 1030 hours0.0119 days <br />0.286 hours <br />0.0017 weeks <br />3.91915e-4 months <br /> on 5-14-86.

In the future the cleaning of oil / water separator M-18 will be i

better coordinated to minimize water from going to T-41 during the cleaning period.

A visual check of the mixing basin discharge during the bypass showed no visible oil in the discharge or lake.
