Identification of specific effluent limitation or monitoring requirement affected:

Total residual chlorine daily maximum limitation of 0.3 mg/1.

Description of Incident:

During the chlorination of "A" cooling tower on 10/4/82, the maximum measured TRC value in the mixing basin was 0.75 ppm at 1700 hours0.0197 days <br />0.472 hours <br />0.00281 weeks <br />6.4685e-4 months <br />.

The chlorination period lasted from 1650 to 1740 hours0.0201 days <br />0.483 hours <br />0.00288 weeks <br />6.6207e-4 months <br />.

Apparent Cause:

Excessive chlorine feed for Plant conditions.

If not immediately corrected,,the anticipated time the condition is expected to continue:

Corrective Action - The following corrective action was taken or will be teken to reduce, eliminate and prevent recurrence:

Cooling tower chlorination was secured (terminated) at 1652 hours0.0191 days <br />0.459 hours <br />0.00273 weeks <br />6.28586e-4 months <br />, as soon as the chlorine excursion was detected.

Additional Comments:

The amount of chlorine applied was a routine amount that, on previous occa-sions, had not caused excursions above the chlorine discharge limits. No dead or distressed fish were observed during the chlorine discharge.
