Turbine Sump Oil Outfall Code No: 800218 Separator (001/00F)
Parameter: Oil and Grease Parameter Code No: 00556 1.
Date of Incident: March 3,4,5,6,7,8 and 10, 1986 2.
Identification of specific effluent limitation or monitoring requirement affected:
Exceeded daily maximum limit 20 mg/L 3.
Description of Incident:
Routine sample of the turbine sump oil separator tank (T-41) on 3/3/86 (1300 hours0.015 days <br />0.361 hours <br />0.00215 weeks <br />4.9465e-4 months <br />) was reported on 3/4/86 to be 132.6 mg/L. Additional monitoring on March 4,5,6,7,8 and 10, 1986 to assess system performance measured 675.7, 78.3, 37.5, 41.0, 39.3 and 112.7 mg/L oil and grease, respectively.

Apparent Cause:
Turbine sump pit filled with oil from a leaking seal on the No. 4 turbine bearing oil lift pump which overwhelmed the oily waste treatment system.

If not immediately corrected, the anticipated time the condition is expected to continue:

Corrective Action - The following corrective action was taken or will be taken to reduce, eliminate and prevent recurrence:
The leak on the pump was secured. Accumulated oil in the turbine sump was pumped to an oil hold tank.

Additional Comments:
Daily samples of T-41 will be taken until value is within limit. Mixing basin discharge was visually checked for oil daily, (no oil was visible in the discharge or lake at any time).
