Description:

Neutralizer Tank Outfall Codh No: 800213 Discharge (00E)

Parameter: Total Suspended Solids Parameter Code No: 00530 1.

Date of Incident: June 30, 1986 2.

Identification of specific effluent limitation or monitoring requirement affected:

Monthly average limit of 30 mg/L total suspended solids 3.

Description of Incident:

The June monthly average total suspended solids concentration for the neutralizer tank was 36.2 mg/L.

Apparent Cause:

The neutralizer tank was released on June 3, 1986 with a suspended solids content of 72.2 mg/L (the tank contained a high level of rusty. water). The two remaining tanks reIcased on June 28 and June 30 contained 9.7 and 26.6 mg/L suspended solids, respectively.

If not immediately corrected, the anticipated time the condition is expected to continue:

Corrective Action - The following corrective action was take,n or will be taken to reduce, eliminate and prevent recurrence:

Oniv in an emergency situation will the neutralizer tank be released with suspended solids greater than 30 mg/L.
