Dear Chairman Palladino:
As the Mayor of the Village of Buchanan, New York, within whose borders are located t.he Indian Point nuclear power plants, permit me to seek your persona? support and that of the other Commissioners in correcting the grievous error of the Licensing Board in ordering that the. upcoming safety hearings be held in a distant town, more than 18 miles from the plants, and inaccessible to the hundreds of our local citizens who are most af fected by the plants' operations.
The Commission has not hesitated to correct Board's mistakes in the past, and its present order on the location of the hearing flatly disregards the Commission's earlier admoni-tion t hat the Indian Point hearings be held "in the vicinity o f the plant ." The hearings will be a cruel hoax to those of us living near the plant unless each hearing session is held as the Commission directed.
I urge you to grant our enclosed Emergency Petition for Directed Certification.
