Dear Mr. Palladino:
Devid S. Siegel supennt.ndent ot scnoc!:
Now that the continued operation of Indian Point has been approved, we call your attention to a glaring omission in
" Y,n", N[ pions Eiem senooi the new evacuation plan - it contains no mention of schoo.'-
children!
Josepn zalee. Pnncipal P ne van m ume scw The previous plan was scrapped, in part, because of its Chartee W. Keir, Pnncipal unrealistic provisions for school-time evacuation.
It is cmton-Hannon ssn scw difficult to avoid the conclusion that public officials have John lurato, Ass 1 Pnropa, solved that problem by ignoring it.
County Executive croton-Hannon Hsn schooi O'Rourke has been quoted in the press as suggesting that students be sent home in the event of an emergency at Indian p,
, g, Point.
We feel ctrongly that routine early dismissal Pupil Personnel serwces procedures, appropriate for dealing with a malfunctioning h R.
heating system or an impending storm, are dangerously o'
inadequate as part of an area-wide evacuation plan.
School officials have testified to this explicitly and in detail before the NRC, but to date no one has responded to our concerns.
Mr. O'Rourke's suggestion remains something we read in the papers, and we have no official course to follow should an emergency be declared.
This disregard for the safety of our children is intol-erable, and we look for your immediate and appropriate response.
