RADIOLOGICAL EMERGENCY RESPONSE PREPAREDNESS.

Meehan/ Murphy WHEREAS, by numerous resolutions, Rockland County has in the past supported the closure of the nuclear power facilities located at Indian Point, Buchanan, New York, and WHEREAS, the State of New York has imposed a compense. ting radiological evacuation plan upon Rockland County and removed from Rockland County officials the primary responsibility for disaster preparedness, and WHEREAS, the Legislature of Rockland County recognizes the diligent effort and labor of the Cititens Advisory Committee to review Rockland County's own nuclear evacuation and preparedness plan, and WHEREAS. cimpletion of the review process by the Citizens Advisory Committee

, nuclear occurrence at the Indian Point power facilities, the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Rockland County can best be protected by direct participation, supervision and coordination of rescurces within and without Rockland County by Rockland County officials, and WHEREAS, a transition process is necessary before Rockland County officials may reassume primary responsibility for disaster preparedness, to allow for the training of Rockland County employees under the State /Rockland County plan, to allow for Rockland County's input into the four-county planning process, for the smooth transition between the State of New York and Rockland County, and to allow Rockland County to pursue funding for training and e.quipment, and WHEREAS, the Citizens Advisory Committee, by a 15-4 vote, and +.he Multi-Services Committee, by a unanimous vote, have met, considered and approved this resolution, now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the Legislature of Rockland County again calls for the shutdown of the Indian Point nuclear power plants and reconfirms its belief that no radiological plan can guarantee the health, safety and welfare of the citizens of Rockland County in the event of a severe nuclear occurrence at the Indian Point power plants, r d be it further (continued on reverse side)
