SUBJECT:

Correction to Indian Point's Annual Radiological Environmental Operating Report for 1996 __

Dear Sir:

The purpose of this letter is to forward corrected pages (Attachment l} for the Indian Point Site Annual Radiological Environmental Operating Report (REOR) for year 1996 (Reference 1). Indian Point 3 Technical Specifications require, in part, that semiannually we obtain two fish samples for analysis.

This includes obtaining one sample from the influence area of the plant discharge and obtaining the second sample from an area not influenced by the plant discharge, a control area. The Technical Specifications allow deviations from the required sampling schedule if specimens are unobtainable. All deviations from the sampling schedule shall be documented in the REOR. During the year 1996 one semiannual fish sample from an area not influenced by the plant discharge was unobtainable, but this deviation was not reported in REOR. This letter corrects that oversight.

Also, Attachment 11 is a summary of our findings associated with this omission and actions taken or that are intended to be taken to preclude recurrence. Indian Point makes no commitments by this it.tter.

Should you or your staff have any questions, please contact Mr. Don Mayer of the Indian Point Unit 3 staff at (914) 736-8401.

Very truly yours, Very truly yours, 42r

, Robe . . Barrett
