Description:

Neutralizer Tank Wastes Outfall No: 800213 Parameter: Suspended Solids - Total Parameter No: 00530

1. Date of Incident: 8/13/79
2. Identification of specific effluent limitation exceeded: Daily maximum limitation of 100 mg/l total suspended solids.
3. Description of Incident: On 8/13/79 at 2000 hours0.0231 days <br />0.556 hours <br />0.00331 weeks <br />7.61e-4 months <br />, 20,000 gallons of neutralizer tank contents were released to Lake Michigan. The TSS concentration in this release measured 175 mg/1.
4. Apparent Cause: A rupture of the neutralizer tank resulted in an emergency situation where it became necessary to immediately drain the contents from the tank. To avoid complete loss of contents within the surrounding area, the remaining contents were intentionally discharged.
