RESPONSE TO NRC BULLETIN 88-03 ',

.On March 10, 1988 the NRC staff issued NRC Bulletin 88-03, " Inadequate Latch Engagement in HFA Type Latching Relays Manufactured by General Electric (GE)

Company." The bulletin requested the evaluation of all latching-type HFA relays in Class IE (safety-related) applications for 1) distance measurements

'between the top of the molded contact carrier and the top of the relay armature;

2) full latch rotation when the armature-is fully depressed; 3) repairing or '

replacing any relays which fails the inspections; and 4) inspection of all i existing spare HFA relays. The bulletin also requested that licensees provide i a written response either within 120 days of receipt of the bulletin if the licensee does not have HFA type latching relays subject to this bulletin or within 30 days of completion of the inspection if the licensee does have the-
