1 By your letter and affidavit dated July 18,1997, General Electric Company (GE) submitted

" Material Presented by General Electric at July 9,1997 Meeting at the Cooper Nuclear Power i Station Regarding Replacement of ECCS Pump Suction Strainers Between NPPD [ Nebraska I Public Power District], GE, and NRC Staff" and requested that it be withheld from public f disclosure pursuant to 10 CFR 2.790.

The affidavit stated that the submitted information should be considered exempt from mandatory public disclosure for the following reasons:  ;

a. It contains information that discloses a process, method, or apparatus, including supporting data and analyses, where prevention of its use by GE's competitors ~f p without license from GE constitutes a competitive economic advantage over other companies. j
b. It contains information which, if used by a competitor, would reduce his expenditure '

, n of resources or improve his competitive position in the design, manufacture, yi shipment, installation, assurance of quality, or licensing of a similar produce.

We have reviewed your application and the materialin accordance with the requirements of 10 CFR 2.790 and, on the basis of your statements, have determined that the submitted  ;

information sought to be withheld contains proprietary commercialinformation and should be I withheld from public disclosure.

NPPD, GE, and NRC Staff," marked as proprietary, will be withheld from public disclosure i pursuant to 10 CFR 2.700(b)(5) and Section 103(b) of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954, as
