OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL HELD ON JUNE 30, 2014, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND EXELON GENERATION COMPANY, LLC, DISCUSSING APPLICANT RESPONSES TO STAFF REQUESTS FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION B.2.1.16-1A, B.2.1.23-1, AND 3.0.3-3A CONCERNING THE BYRON STATION AND BRAIDWOOD STATION, LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAC NOS. MF1879, MF1880, MF1881, MF1882)

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon or the applicant), held a telephone conference call on June 30, 2014, to discuss and clarify the applicant's responses to staff requests for additional information (RAIs). Specifically, the staff discussed the responses submitted for RAI B.2.1.23-1 (letter dated January, 13, 2014), RAI 3.0.3-3a (letter dated May 12, 2014), and RAI B.2.1.16-1a (letter dated June 16, 2014). For the responses associated with RAI B.2.1.23-1 and RAI 3.0.3-3a, the staff was concerned that program basis information located in the response was not adequately addressed in the associated aging management program (AMP) basis description in Section B of the license renewal application (LRA). The applicant understood the staff's concern and agreed to review and amend the RAI response to include the basis information in the associated AMP basis description in Section B of the LRA.

For the response associated with RAI B.2.1.16-1a, the staff was concerned that the response information regarding the extent of inspections for multiple wet pipe sprinkler systems in the Fire Water System program was not being addressed in the associated LRA commitments and Fire Water System AMP enhancements. The applicant stated that they had deliberately not included the statement, "[t]he wet pipe sprinkler systems that are not inspected during a five (5) year period will be inspected during the subsequent five (5) year period" in the associated LRA commitments, and Fire Water System AMP enhancements, because it believed that this was beyond the level of detail required in the commitment and enhancement statements.

The applicant also stated that placing this information in the RAI response and Fire Water System AMP Program Description is sufficient to ensure that the statement will be included in the applicable plant-specific implementing procedures. The staff will evaluate this item to determine if more information is needed.

The applicant had an opportunity to comment on this summary.
