OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL HELD ON JANUARY 23, 2014, BETWEEN THE U.S. NUCLEAR REGULATORY COMMISSION AND EXELON GENERATION COMPANY, LLC, CONCERNING RAI SET 11, FOR THE BYRON STATION AND BRAIDWOOD STATION LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION (TAG NOS. MF1879, MF1880, MF1881, AND MF1882)

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon or the applicant), held a telephone conference call on January 23, 2014, to discuss Request for Additional Information (RAI) Set 11 RAis for the Byron Station (Byron) and Braidwood Station (Braidwood) license renewal application (LRA). The telephone conference call was useful in clarifying the RAis.

Enclosure 1 provides a listing of the participants and Enclosure 2 contains a summary of the discussion.

The applicant had an opportunity to comment on this summary.

SUMMARY

OF TELEPHONE CONFERENCE CALL FOR RAI SET 11, FOR THE BYRON AND BRAIDWOOD LICENSE RENEWAL APPLICATION January 23, 2014 The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) and representatives of Exelon Generation Company, LLC (Exelon or the applicant), held a telephone conference call on January 23, 2014, to discuss Set 11 RAis for the Byron and Braidwood license renewal application (LRA). The telephone conference call was useful in clarifying the RAis.

Discussion The staff and the applicant discussed RAI 4. 7.3-1, regarding condition monitoring activities described in certain of the applicant's EQ binders which are required to be performed to ensure that the mechanical subcomponents under consideration will meet the qualified lives criteria as discussed in TLAA Section 4.7.3, "Mechanical Environmental Qualification." The staff and the applicant discussed the various aspects of the request to gain a common understanding of the issue. The applicant indicated it understood the RAI and will factor in the staff's concerns as it prepares its response.
