ISSUANCE OF RENEWED FACILITY OPERATING LICENSES FOR BRAIDWOOD NUCLEAR STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. MF1879 AND MF1880)

Dear Mr. Gallagher:

The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC or the staff) has issued Renewed Facility Operating License Nos. NPF-72 and NPF-77 for Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2, respectively.

The NRC issued the renewed facility operating licenses based on its review of your application dated May 29, 2013, and supplemented by letters submitted to the NRC through April 13, 2015.

The technical specifications for Braidwood 1 and 2 were not amended because of the NRCs review.

Renewed Facility Operating License No. NPF-72 for Unit 1 expires at midnight on October 17, 2046. Renewed Facility Operating License No. NPF-77 for Unit 2 expires at midnight on December 18, 2047.

The technical basis for issuing the renewed operating licenses for Braidwood 1 and 2 is set forth in Safety Evaluation Report Related to the License Renewal of Byron Station, Units 1 and 2, and Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2, dated July 6, 2015 (Agencywide Documents Access and Management System (ADAMS) Accession No. ML15182A051). The results of the environmental review related to the issuance of the renewed licenses are in NUREG-1437, Supplement 55, Generic Environmental Impact Statement for License Renewal of Nuclear Plants Regarding Braidwood Station, Units 1 and 2, dated November 2015, (ADAMS Accession No. ML15314A814), and the record of decision.

For Braidwood Unit 1, Enclosure 1 contains Renewed Facility Operating License No. NPF-72; contains the following appendices:

• Appendix A, Technical Specifications

• Appendix B, Environmental Protection Plan

• Appendix C, Additional Conditions

M. Gallagher For Braidwood Unit 2, Enclosure 3 contains Renewed Facility Operating License No. NPF-77 with the following appendices:

• Appendix A, Technical Specifications

• Appendix B, Environmental Protection Plan

• Appendix C, Additional Conditions is a copy of the related Federal Register notice of issuance of the renewed licenses. The staff has sent the original to the Office of the Federal Register for publication.
