This reply to the subject Generic Letter provides the confirmation requested regarding inplementation. and maintenance of procedures to reduce the probability of Au':iliary Feedwater Pump f ailure due to steam binding.

(NOTE: This is comparable to the Emergency Feedwater (EFW) system at Waterford 3.)

As discussed in the referenced LP&L letters, Waterford 3 has installed surface mounted thermemeters on the EFW pump discharge lines and has implemented procedures specifying monitoring once per shift of these thermometers and corrective actions should the temperatures reach certain limits. Our actions have been reviewed by the NKC Staff and determined to be adequate resolation to this issue as documented in Inspection Reports 86-16 and 86-17. These procedural commitments are currently in place and are maintained by the Waterford 3 Commitment Management System which will ensure our compliance with these commitments in the future.

This response is submitted as requested under affidavit pursuant to 10CFR50.54(f).

Very truly yours,
