SUBJECT:

Waterford 3 SES Docket No. 50-382 's IE Bulletin 81-03 Flow Blockage of Cooling Water to Safety System Components by \

Corbicula sp. (Asiatic Clam) and Mytilus sp. (Mussel)

Reference:

W3P81-1578, dated 7/7/81

Dear Mr. Collins:

The subject Bulletin described a problem at Arkansas Nuclear One (ANO)

Unit 2 caused by extensive plugging of the Containment Cooling Units (CCUs) by Asiatic clams.

Louisiana Power & Light's response to the subject Bulletin, transmitted by the referenced letter, stated that LP&L would insert the needed procedures and instructions into their preventative maintenance program for the monitoring requirements for possible Corbicula sp. intrusion.

At this time we would like to supplement our earlier response and inform you that CE-01-009, Corbiculae Infestation Evaluation of Safety Related System, has been approved and satisfies all monitoring requirements for possible Corbicula sp. littrusion.

If you have further queries or comments on this matter, please advise.

Yours very truly, kiM
