JOSEPH M. FARLEY NUCLEAR PIANT.

UNIT 2 i

NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATIONS March, 1989 During the month of March, there was one unit shutdown which occurred on March 24, 1989, and initiated the Cycle 6 - 7 refueling outage.

On March 25, the 2A steam generator atmospheric.' relief valve (ARV) lifted while maintenance personnel were setting up equipment to support main steam safety valve testing. The work being performed caused an increase in the pressure in a pressure transmitter sensing line. Steam generator pressure was normal. Since the ARV was in automatic, the apparent increase in pressure caused the valve to open. Operations personnel placed the ARV in manual and closed it.

It was open for less than one minute. Subsequently, the ARV was returned to automatic operation and no further problems were experienced.

The following major safety-related maintenance was performed in the month of March:

1.

The program for performing physical and calibration inspections of the HFA relays continued.

2.

The #3 and #6 river water pumps were overhauled.

3.

Miscellaneous corrective and preventive maintenance was performed on the diesel generators.
