Dear Administrative Judges:

This is to confirm my conversation with Chairman Bloch on April 24, 1987, regarding his inquiry as tc whether measures were being taken to preserve those documents referred to hy Mr. George Mulley, Office of Inspector and Auditor, and Mr. H. Shannon Phillips, Region IV , in their respective testimony before the Senate Committee on Governmental Affairs on April 9, 1987. Chairman Bloch had initially communicated his inquiry to Staff Counsel by phone, with Mr. Roisman also participating, on April 17, 1987.

I informed C hairman Bloch that Mr. C hristopher Grimes, Director of the Comanche Peak Division, Office of Special Projects was asked to call Mr. Phillips and request that all documents currently in his possession which relate to his April 9 testimony be segregated and retained until further notice . It should be noted that documents related to 01 A's investigation which are currently in Region IV's possession have been segregated and are ,

also being retained. Likewise, I spoke with Mr. Mulley and was informed .

that documents that support the specific statements in his testimony no longer exist, having been discarded upon issuance of 01 A's Report of r Investigation 86-10, but that the several draft versions of the Report that do exist have been segregated and will be retained for the indefinite future.
