South' Texas Project, Units 1 and 2 Gentlemen:
I With reference to the South Texas operating license antitrust proceeding, the Staff wishes to advise the Board that the scheduled fuel-loading date has been slipped eighteen months. Whereas fuel-loading for the South Texas Unit I had previously been scheduled for May of 1980, it is now scheduled for November of 1981, as the attached letter indicates.
Secondly, as the Staff reads the relevant orders and notices concerning December 5,1978, it is our understanding that the conference schedule for that day is as follows:
9:30 a.m.
Special Prehearing Conference, Comanche Peak 2:30 p.m.
Joint Conference with counsel, Comanche Peak and South Texas l
3:00 p.m.

o The Staff's' suggestion regarding this schedule is that the respective con "
ferences be held consecutively, as listed, without strict regard to scheduled times.
Thus, the Joint Conference could be concluded before the lunch hour if time permits.

Dear Mr. Boyd:
South Texas Project Units 1 6 2 Docket Nos. STN 50-498, STN 50-499 Revision of Construction Schedule Representatives of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission
' and Houston Lighting 6 Power, managing partner for the South. Texas Project, met on April 4,
5, and 6, 1978 to review and to develop data needed to predict the fuel loading and commercial operation dates for the South Texas Project, Units 1 and 2.
At the conclusion of that meeting, Hous ton Lighting and Power Company agreed to provide an updated schedule to the NRC in the third quarter of 1978.
An intensive evaluation of the STP schedule was performed.
The results of that evaluation are set forth below.
The revised constru'etion schedule indicates that fuel loading of Unit 1 will be November 1, 1981 with commerical operation commencing April 1, 1982.
Fuel loading and start-up of Unit 2 will take place approximately one year later.
These revised dates are consistent with those predicted by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's Caseload Forecast Panel.
I Should additional detail be desirable, please contact Mr. W. M. Menger*at (713) 228-9211, extension 3826.
Very truly yours, l
