20555 JO 2 Gentlemen:

Subject:

Docket No. 50-206 Control Room Habitability San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 Our letters of April 1, 1981 and April 13, 1981, submitted to you the results of our evaluation of the San Onofre Unit 1 control room habitability system. It was also stated that we expected to implement proposed changes to the system to meet NRC criteria by approximately August, 1983, and that the implementation date might change due to results of the Systematic Evaluation Program (SEP) integrated assessment.

The purpose of this letter is to inform you that, for reasons discussed in our April 1, 1981 letter (engineering and design work and procurement of long lead time equipment), the implementation of the proposed changes to the habitability system will require approximately 30 months. It is now our intention to include the control room HVAC modification with modifications which will be performed in connection with the SEP integrated assessment. Based upon an expected April 30, 1982 date for issuance of the SEP integrated assessment, the control room habitability modifications are not expected to be completed before October, 1984.

Very truly yours, 8.,r oisn 3,2Aq
