,7 NUREG-0737 - CLARIFICATION OF PREVIOUS. SUBMITTAL i:ii!

w, Gentlemen:

This letter clarifies a statement in our November 4;.1981 letter which requested extensions of implementation of several NUREG-0737 requirements.

In our request for extension of Item II.B.3, Post Accident Sampling Systems, we stated that:

"A temporary sample system was installed in response to NUREG-0578.

This system provides the capability to sample reactor coolant and drywell atmosphere in the event of an, accident." These statements could be construed to mean that physical systems have been installed for each of the sampling functions.

Clarification is in order.

The system, as described, provides two post accident, capabilities:

1 1)

The capability to sample reactor coolant. via te.aporary line's, and 2)

The capability to sample drywell atmosphere via the ~ r-ce pathwey used for the normal drywell atmosphere. sampling procedure.

The above provisions were approved as an interim measure. by hour

~

February 26, 1980, letter.

We hope this clarification will p6clude - any misunderstanding regarding the temporary sampling. system.'

We believe the use of these temporary methods will create no risk; to publit;. hejlth and safety.

J. T. Beckham, Jr. states that he is Vice President of Georgia Power Company and is authorized to execute this oath on behalf of Georgia Power Company, and that to the best of his knowledge and belief the facts set forth in this letter are true.
