Southern California Edison Company P. O. BOX 800 2244 WALNUT GROVE AVENUE ROSEMEAD, CALIFORNIA 91770 January 24, 1980 Mr. Harold R. Denton, Director Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Washington, D. C.

Dear Mr. Denton:

Subject:

Docket No. 50-206 San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station Unit 1 By letter dated January 14, 1980, we submitted specific power reliability information requested by your letter dated January 4, 1980.

The specific power reliability information was presented in Enclosure A to our January 14, 1980 letter.

The purpose of this letter is to advise you that a portion of the information which should have been contained in Appendix 10 of Enclosure A was inadvertently omitted during final preparation.

The information was omitted from Page 3 of Appendix 10.

Accordingly, enclosed for your use and information is a corrected Page 3 of Appendix 10 which supersedes the Page 3 now included in Appendix 10.

This omitted information has been discussed with Mr.

Richard Weiner of the U. S. Department of Energy.

A corrected Page 3 of Appendix 10 was provided to Mr. Weiner on January 18, 1980 for his use and information.

If you have any questions, or desire further infor mation, please contact me.

Very truly yours, J. G. H7nes Chief of Nuclear Engineering Enclosure cc:

Mr. Richard Weiner, Director Division of Power Supply and Reliability U. S. Department of Energy 2000 M. Street, NW.

are excluded from total capacity (line 10).

Referring to line 15b, these amount to 761 MW for Edison in the month of February. These restrictions are being corrected as part of Edison's intensified maintenance program to upgrade the relia bility of its thermal system. Certain other existing resources are excluded from the capacity tabulations, due to lack of firm transmission, interruptible fuel, or limited storage hydro.

San Onofre Unit 1 scheduled maintenance is during the months of April and May.

Line 15A lists average forced outage experience.

The California power pool has been using this format for estimating purposes because of the large amounts of forced outages being experienced. This average number is shown as 1500 MW for Edison. At any given time, the amount may be higher or lower.

For example, on June 12, 1979, during a new, all-time summer peak load, Edison had 2668 MW of forced outage.

On September 11, 1979 (another new all-time peak load), Edison had 1959 MW of generation unavailable due to forced outages.

The bottom line (16b) shows monthly margins after average forced outages.
