Dear Mr. Marlar:

SEQUOYAH NUCLEAR PLANT (SQN) - UTILIZATION OF UNAPPROVED TEST oROCEDURE -

NPDES PERMIT N0. TN0026450 In accordance with Part I.C.4 (Test Procedures) of the SQN NPDES permit, we are informing you that the total residual chlorine data for DSNs 003, 007, and 024 presented in the discharge monitoring reports (DMRs) covering the period of August 1982 to January 1983 ara the results of analyses performed with a color comparator. We failed to note this on the DMRs for this reporting period. This analysis is nonnally perfonned by the amperometric titration methoJ; however, our amperometric titrator was inoperable during this period. A new amperometric titrator was purchased and put in service, and the old instrument has since been repaired and is on standby as a backup unit.

.If you have any questions concerning this matter, please call Michael Hines or Stephen R. Wells at (205) 386-2971 or FTS 872-8971 in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

Sincerely, Driginal Signed By M. T. El-Ashry Mohamed T. El-Ashry, Ph.D.
