SUBJECT:
INSPECTION PLAN FOR SEQUOYAH AND MEETING TO DISCUSS THE NEW NRC REACTOR INSPECTION AND OVERSIGHT PROCESS
' On May 10,1999, the NRC staff held a planning meeting for the Sequoyah Nuclear Plant to identify the inspection activities at your facility over the next six months.' This meeting was held to support the pilot of the new oversight process. The purpose of this letter is to inform you of our planned inspection activities so that you will have an opportunity to prepare for these
' inspections and to provide us with feedback on any planned inspections which may conflict with your plant activities.
We may decide to augment these inspection activities with other inspectors or technical j
reviewers in order to train these individuals in our new oversight process. Therefore, some of Ij
. these inspection activities may involve more NRC personnel than customary for a routine i
baseline inspection ~-
f During the next six months (June 1999 to November 1999), we plan to conduct the inspections shown on the enclosed inspection plans. These inspections represent the planned baseline inspections (formerly core). Enclosure 1 lists the specifically scheduled inspections which will
. be completed within the next six months. Enclosure 2 lists the periodic inspections that will be completed within the next six months.
In addition, this is also to inform you that the NRC plans to conduct a meeting on Monday, June 28,1999, at 6:00 p.m. to discuss the new NRC reactor inspection and oversight process.
The location of the meeting will be at the USNRC Technical Training Center, 5746 Marlin Road, Suite 200, Chattanooga, Tn. This meeting is open to the public as per " Staff Meetings Open to the Public; Final Policy Statement" (September 20,1994; 59 FR 48340).
