JUN 3 01988 Mr. Paul E. Davis, Deputy birector Division of Water Pollution Control Tennessee Department of Health and Environment TERRA Building 150 Ninth Avenue, North Nashville, Tennessee 37219-5404
Dear Mr. Davis:
SEQUOYAM NUCLEAR PLANT (SQN) - NATIONAL POLLUTANT LiSCHARGE ELI SYSTEM (NPDES) PERMIT NO. TUOO26450 - NONRADIOLOGICAL AQUATIC HO PROGRAM - ROTENONE STUDIES Enclosed are two copies of the report, "Chickameuga Reservoir 1987 Fisheries Monitoring, Cove hotenone Results."
This report is submitted in accurdance with part I, section B.1.c. and part III, section F, of the SQN NPDES Permit.
We have recommended that sampling in the u;,.crmost cove (Sewee Creek) be discontinued because it is questionable whether data from this location are representative of reservoir fish populations.
The sr.mple area in this cove is entirely within the drawdown zone of Chickamauga Reservoir precluding an cstablished resident community.
We recommend cove rotenone studies continue at the t'emaining four covos bu; sampling frequency changed to every other 3 car ra'.her than evary year until cuch time as both Sequoyah and Watts Bar hoclear Plants are operating.
is because year-to-year variation is re.buvely small and has been documented This cver the last 17 years of conse:utive sanpl.ng.
Cove rotenone studies are planned for tt.is summer.
Sewee Creek cove if you approve our request.
We will not sample the Ft.11owing the 1988 samples, we propose to implement our recommendation to cempic every other year.
sample year would be.1990.
The next We would appreciate receiving your concurrence on the recommended changes by July 29 so they can be incorporated this year.
If your staff has sny questions, please have them contact Madonna E. Martin at (615) 632-6695 in Knoxville.
