Mr. James P. O'Reilly LER No.93-007,. Revision 1 P&ge Two February 22, 1983 DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF EVENT On January 24, 1983, with the Plant in Mode 1, the NRC Resident Inspector identified a discrepancy of 9% between the Main Control Board and Control Room Evacuation Panel (CREP) indication for Pressurizer _ Relief Tank Level. The Channel Check performed by the licensee, in compliance with Technical Specification Surveillance Requirement 4.3.3.5, has an established maximum deviation of 4%

between the redundant indicators. A Channel Check performed on January 3, 1983, indicated that since the redundant channels were within the 4% allowable deviation, the out-of-tolerance condition occurred after that date.

The CREP indication (LI-470A) was declared inoperable at 1145 hours0.0133 days
0.318 hours
0.00189 weeks
4.356725e-4 months
on January 24, 1983, in accordance with Action Statement (a) of Technical Specification 3.3.3.5.

PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES There were no adverse consequences from this event. The level indication was functional _but drifted high during the period of time between January 3 through 24, 1983.

CAUSE(S) OF THE OCCURRENCE The cause of the occurrence is attributed to instrument drif t.

IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TAKEN A calibration was performed on the Main Control Board and CREP indication channels for Pressurizer Relief Tank Level. Level transmitter LT-470A, which provides indication to the CREP, was l found to have u zero shift of approximately 8% in the high i

direction. The tc nsmitter was calibrated and returned to operable status on uanuary 25, 1983, at 1630 hours0.0189 days
0.453 hours
0.0027 weeks
6.20215e-4 months
, upon the satisfactory completicn of a Channel Check performed with the appropriate surveillance test procedure.

Mr. James P. O'Reilly LER No.83-007, Revision 1 Page Three February 22,-1983 ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT RECURRENCE The licensee has initiated the following actions to prevent recurrence: ,

~

'l.- Level transmitter LT-470A is scheduled for replacement during'the next scheduled outage.

-in March 1983. The exact time of the equipment replacement is dependent upon-the receipt of the new transmitter 1from the vendor.

2. The monthly Channel check performed on Pressurizer Relief Tank Level will be accomplished.on a weekly basis until the transmitter is replaced. A transmitter calibration will be performed if a deviation of 3% or greater is observed.
