On January:24,:1983, withIthe Plant 'in Mode 1, t'he. NRC Resident Inspector identifiedLa discrepancy of 9% between the Main' Control, Board and Control Room Evacuation Panel (CREP) indication for Pressurizer Relief Tank Level. 'The' Channel. Check performed by the licensee, in compliar.ce with Technical Specification Surveillance

- Requirement 4.3.3.5, has an established maximum deviation of.4%

between toe redundant indicators. A Channel Check performed on January. 3,1983, indicated'that since the redundant channels were

. within the 4% allowable deviation, the out-of-tolerance condition 4

i occurred after that date.

The CREP indication (LI-470A) was declared inoperable at 1145 hours0.0133 days
0.318 hours
0.00189 weeks
4.356725e-4 months
on January 24, 1983, in accordance with Action Statement (a) 7 of Technical Specification 3.3.3.5.,

PROBABLE CONSEQUENCES There were no adverse consequences from this event. The level

- indication was functional but drifted high during the period of time between January 3 through 24, 1983.

r CAUSE(S) 0F THE OCCURRENCE

- The cause of the occurrence is attributed to instrument drift.-

IMMEDIATE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TAKEN

- A calibration was performed on the Main Control Board and CREP indication channels for Pressurizer Relief Tank Level.- Level l

transmitter LT-470A, which provides indication to' the CREP, was found to have a zero shif t of approximately 8% in the high 4

direction. The transmitter was calibrated and returned to operable' status on January 25,1983,.at 1630 hours0.0189 days
0.453 hours
0.0027 weeks
6.20215e-4 months
, upon the satisf actory completion of a' Channel Check performed with the appropriate surveillance test procedure.

Mr. James P. O'Reilly LER No.83-007 Page Three February 17, 1983 ACTION TAKEN TO PREVENT RECURRENCE The licensee has initiated the following actions to prevent recurrence:

1.

Level transmitter LT-470A is scheduled for replacement during the next scheduled outage in March 1983. The exact time of the equipment replacement is dependent upon the receipt of the new transmitter from the vendor.

2.

The monthly Channel Check performed on Pressurizer Relief Tank Level will be accomplished on a weekly basis until the transmitter is replaced. A transmitter calibration will be performed if a deviation of 3% or greater is observed.
