Dear Mr. Keppler:

,A $ 5l @ Q MONTICELLO NUCLEAR GENERATING PLANT g Docket No. 50-263 License No. DPR-22 -

Systematic Review of Seismic Class I Piping and Supports - I. E. Bulletin No. 79-14 By letter dated February 13, 1980, the details of the systematic review program for seismic class I piping and supports were submitted to you.

This program will be completed using current engineering practice with con-sideration given to current regulatory positions concerning seismic evalu-ation. The first phase, consisting of preparation of procedures and speci-fications based on the above stated assu=ptions, has been completed.

Evaluation of orig, inal piping response spectra by the Bethtel Power Corpora-tion is leading to the generation of new spectra for possible use. This is resulting in a significant addition to the program work scope. Completion of the first piping group review by June of 1981 as originally planned is not feasible because of this additional work scope. Progress reports will be submitted at six month intervals to keep the staff informed of project status.

Piping reviews for IE Bulletin No. 79-14 verified that no short-term piping operability problems exist. Completion of the projected program will insure that all long term piping operability concerns are addressed.

Yours truly, D. E. G lberts Senior Vice President Power Supply ec: Mr. C. H. Brown Mr. G. Charnoff U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Director - Office of Inspection and Enforecment Director - Division of Operating Reactors Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation Washington, D. C. 20555 h -
